Crash Landing On You: Characters Review

Crash Landing On You is a Korean drama that was originally came from Netflix and produced by Dragon Studio.

Blurb:

"A paragliding mishap drops a South Korean heiress in North Korea -- and into the life of an army officer, who decides he will help her hide." 

Starring Son Ye-jin, Hyun Bin, Seo Ji Hye and Kim Jun Hyun.

I started watching this k-drama when enhance community quarantine started. During home quarantine, we get bored and will find something to do, watch, read or something that can pass the time. We can even develop a new hobby or we can go back to something we used to enjoy. 

As for me, I used to watch k-drama way back 2016 – the year when all the legendary kdramas started. I have watched many kdramas since then. I became inactive during 2018 and 2019 but quarantine provoked me to get back with it especially that the Crash Landing On You has been the talk in social media and curiosity got the best of me. Since it’s the society’s nature to go with the trends, I, too, can't let this pass.

After watching Money Heist in Netflix, I decided to watch CLOY next. I downloaded the whole episodes without a second thought. I even gave my comments through a thread in Twitter which you can read by visiting my Twitter profile (floresclariza). I put it in my moments. 

If you have already watched this k-drama, maybe you can relate to my characters review and you can also feel free to share your comments about my reviews to them. If you haven’t watched CLOY yet and you’re still planning to, this blog can be your guide to what kind of characters you’ll be encountering in this drama.

I won’t give a review with all the characters but only for those whom I consider that has the important roles in this drama. And we’ll start with the main casts:

1. Yoon Se-Ri (Son Ye-Jin)

    Yoon Se-Ri is a South Korean heiress in their family company but she also has her own company which is “Seri’s Choice,” it’s a fashion company and she’s sitting as the chairwoman. Since she’s a business woman, I admire her intelligence when it comes to negotiating. 

Based on her company’s name “Seri’s Choice,” it is somewhat related in her life because she always make a decision for herself and among the siblings in their family, she’s the only one who can stand with her own. She is an independent woman. She built her own company without a man in her side. 

    Despite of their family conflicts, Se-Ri seeks the love from her family but she feels left-out. She doesn’t feel happy but not until she accidentally flew into North Korea due to paragliding mishap and met Ri Jeong Hyeok, the captain army. Se-Ri has a different perspective in life but everything changed when she experienced the life in North Korea. She's also every thoughtful for the people around her and I love that about her.

2. Ri Jeong Hyeok (Hyun Bin)

    Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok is an army officer from North Korea. He is also the son of the Director of General Political Bureau (GPB), the highest rank in their army. 

    I love  how calm he is! Even if you point a gun at him, threaten him or cuff him, he can still be calm! But don’t threaten him that you’ll kill Se-Ri, you will surely see rage and worry in his eyes. And just like what Se-Ri always say, he’s not good in lying. He often smile but when he smiles, it’s because of Se-Ri. And I love how he cares for Se-Ri so much! Even in their first encounter, he showed how much he cares for Se-Ri even though he knows she’s a South Korean woman and not all of us are aware of this but there’s a war between South and North Korea. When you came from South and you entered the North, they need to investigate you and same goes with the South. And when Se-Ri enters the North and Captain Ri finds her, instead of bringing her in State Security Department to investigate her, he hid and protected her!

    Jeong Hyeok always has a straight face and he can go on with a day without any emotions in his face! But when he’s with Se-Ri, he can have different emotions in his face, happiness, jealousy, pain and even kilig! He always protect Se-Ri even if his life would be at stake.

3. Seo Dan (Seo Ji Hye)

    I love her fashion in this drama and her clips became really iconic. Seo Dan is a very “straight to the point” person. She is not someone that will beat around the bush. She is also sarcastic and just like Jeong Hyeok, she always keep a straight face on. I also love the way on how she improved herself. She turned herself into a very fine lady. She's also a very sophisticated woman. She doesn't talk that much but when she does, she can easily shut you up. That's how powerful her aura is.

4. Gu Seung Jun (Kim Jung Hyun)

    Gu Seung Jun is a conman. He used that for his living. Like Se-Ri, Seung Jun is also good in negotiating. He’s a good talker but he just tell his stories to someone he can trust and when he talks about his life, he gets really emotional. He used his past as his inspiration to work harder. He’s also a nice man with a soft heart. I won’t forget those times that he helped Se-ri in other circumstances even if it will put him at risk. I just hope that this drama considered to gave more justice to his character but he proves that not all leading characters should live happily-ever-after at the end.

5. Jeong Hyeok’s Comrades – Pyo Chi Su (Yang Kyung Won), Kim Ju Meok (Yoo Su-bin), Park Gwang Beom (Lee Shin-Young), and Geum Eun Dong (Tang Joon-Sang)

    Gosh, I love their squad! They contributed so much fun in this drama and even though they have different personalities, they still get along with each other. 

    Pyo Chi Su is the second leader next to Jeong Hyeok. He leads his comrades when Jeong Hyeok is not around. And he’s also the most talkative one among them! But, he may act tough outside but this guy right here has a soft heart, he’s just showing it by being tough. He also likes to argue with Se-Ri but I guess, it's not normal for him to be friendly.

    Next is Kim Ju Meok. I also love his personality for being kind and just a happy-go-lucky guy. He loves South Korean dramas! He is even addicted to it. When his comrades are clueless about the South Korean things, he always enlighten them as if he also came from South Korea.

    Park Gwang Beom, the most good looking. We all got a crush on him cus who wouldn’t? If Chi Su is the most talkative one then Gwang Beom is the quietest in the group. Sometimes, he just smile and it’s cute! He’s our one friend in the squad where he just likes to listen more than talking. And Jeong Hyeok trusts him with certain tasks because he knows that Gwang Beom can keep a secret.

    And lastly, Geum Eun Dong. The cutest one for me! And he’s also the youngest among them and the most innocent one. He is also very loyal with Jeong Hyeok and with his comrades. His hyungs (older brothers in Korea) love him and cares for him so much because in a group, he’s the maknae (youngest one).

6. The Villagers – Hyun Myeong Sun (Jang So-Yeon), Ma Yeong Ae (Kim Jung-Nan), Na Wol Sook (Kim Sun-Young) and Yang Ok Geum (Cha Cheong-Hwa)

    Their squad has no name, I’m just the one who named them “The Villagers” because they always stay in their village and became Se-Ri’s friends. I also liked their squad because they always help each other. They are just neighbors who also became friends but their bond is strong and unique. They care for each other like true family.

    Na Wol Sook, the head of their village has a strong personality. If Pyo Chi Su is the most talkative one in Jeong Hyeok’s comrades, Na Wol Sook is the most talkative one in this squad. Don’t get this drank or else she can be tactless. 

    Ma Yeong Ae is the wife of one of the Senior Colonels in State Security Department. Ma Yeong Ae is much respected in their village because of his husband’s position. But she doesn’t use that title to belittle her neighbors or be mean to them. In fact, she’s very kind and also has a nice heart.

    Hyun Myeong Sun, the nicest person to me in their squad. She is also the quietest one, just like Gwang Beom. She keeps a very low profile of herself and her family. Among the four of them, she’s the only one who doesn’t try hard to be close with Yeong Ae because of her embarassment and she's already contented by the fact that she's one of Yeong Ae's friends.

    Last one is Yang Ok Geum. She always stick next to Wol Sook or Yeong Ae and she always agree with whatever they say. She’s a friend who’ll support you in everything.

7. Se-Ri’s Family – Father; Yoon Jeung Pyung (Nam Kyeung-Eub), Mother; Han Jung Yeon (Pang Eun-Jin), Brothers; Yoon Se Joon (Dae Hoon Choi) and Yoon Se Hyeong (Park Hyoung Soo)

    Se-Ri’s family is very rich and they are also known in Seoul, South Korea. But Se-Ri didn’t grew up very close with them. Her father, Yoon Jeung Pyung, likes to see his children fight over his position. He just stays quiet as they fight but it is his way of analyzing the situation in able to make a wise decision to whom he will pass his position as the chairman. 

    On the other hand, Han Jung Yeon, Se-Ri’s mother can’t stand the arguments between the siblings but she doesn’t do anything about it. She’s a mom who is not showy and vocal with her emotions but she is also full of regrets in life. But she made her “regrets” as one of the reasons to repent with her short-comings as a mother.

    Yoon Se Joon, the eldest in the sibling. I honestly have no problem with his character and to his wife. His wife is so tactless but I find them cute. At least, even if Se Joon likes the position, he never tried to make bad deeds and he didn’t put Se-Ri in any harm. 

    Unlike, Yoon Se Hyeong, also the older brother of Se-Ri and was next to Se Joon, he likes to get what he wants through money. His wife is also the same with him. They always team up and his wife is very observant with a lot of things. His wife likes to plot a plan but it always fail. And, Se Hyeong is like a puppet to his wife. He always listen to everything it says and when everything falls apart, he blames it on his wife. That is how chaotic they are. So... I dislike them.

8. Jeong Hyeok’s Parents – Father; Ri Choong Ryul (Jeon Gook-Hwan) and Mother; Kim Yoon Hee (Jung Ae-Ri)

    I find Jeong Hyeok’s parents very kind. Like Jeong Hyeok, his father is also calm. Even though they live with richness and power and some people tries to bring them down, they always fail. Ri Choong Ryul, Jeong Hyeok’s father is very smart with every decision he makes. But like any other, his position is also important to him as he is in the highest rank of the army and being much respected.

    Family is important to Jeong Hyeok’s mother, Kim Yoon Hee. And she always remind her husband not to be too greedy with the power he has because family is more important. So, Choong Ryul uses his power to protect their family with also the support and guide of his wife by his side.

9. Seo Dan’s Mother and Uncle

    This two is undeniably siblings. I don’t know why Dan didn’t get their personalities  for being talkative and somewhat annoying but in a good way. But Dan’s mother cares for her daughter like no other. She always think what’s best for Dan and she’s also very thoughtful but sometimes crazy. 

    Seo Dan’s uncle has also a high position in the army and Jeong Hyeok trusts him if he likes to ask for some information, he always ask Dan’s uncle and it can be given to him right away. 

10. Se-Ri’s employees – Mr. Hong (Go Gyu-pil) and Park Soo Chan (Im Chul Soo)

    Mr. Hong is Se-Ri’s loyal employee. He also claims that he knows his boss – which is true. He knows what Se-Ri likes and dislikes. He cares for Se-ri.

 Park Soo Chan isn’t Se-Ri’s employee but I still included him. He is Se-Ri’s insurance (correct me if I’m wrong). He is the one who searched consistently for Se-Ri. When everyone is giving up, Soo Chan really tried to convince Mr. Hong to continue searching for Se-Ri. I like his personality and Se-Ri also appreciates him. 

11. Cho Cheol Gang (Oh Man-Seok)

    You can skip this part because I also want to skip him. Well, he has a big contribution in this drama – headache, stress and annoyance. If you still want to add more things, feel free to do so. Commonly in k-drama, there is really someone who is greedy of the power to the point of doing bad deeds for his own sake – and that is Cho Cheol Gang. He likes to prove many things, he wants to be on the top, and he wants to order around. He is the most annoying character in this drama. But given his history, he has the reason to be that way… but that won’t still justify his acts. 

12. Jung Man Bok (Kim Young-Min)

    He is the last character in the list. If you’re still reading up to his part, thank you so much! Jung Man Bok is Myeong Sun’s husband and he cares for his family so much, they are his top priority. He will do everything for them. All his life, he always obey orders but there is a part that he finally stands firm with his own decision with Jeong Hyeok’s help as he is one of the people who truly understand him. I can’t help but still include him because my heart has a soft spot for his character.

Upon finishing this drama, I got really fond of the characters of Crash Landing On You. I refuse to end watching this but I know that I need to but the separation anxiety (sepanx) that will follow is really unavoidable. I’ve been watching a lot of behind-the-scenes of CLOY in YouTube but I’m just missing them even more.

I must say that they chose the right casts for this drama. They played their roles right and they also embraced their characters. 

If you already finished watching CLOY, watch the behind-the-scenes, Jeong Hyeok and Se-Ri is so cute off-cam! 

And if you haven’t watched this, I hope that you give this a chance. I’m a hundred percent sure that you can’t find an exit once you already watched the first episode. Crash Landing On You is one of the best k-drama in the history. I like its plot, it’s very unique for me. Plus, you’ll get really attached with the characters that you’ll miss them once you’re done.
